The Genoa Aquarium is not only one of Italy’s main tourist attractions — it is also a symbolic place for environmental education, scientific research, and inclusion. With over one million visitors per year, it requires the highest standards in terms of functionality, hygiene, durability, and accessibility. It is within this context that the recent renovation of the public toilets was carried out — an ambitious project in which Idral’s technical solutions were selected as a key partner.
To meet the complexity of the environment, custom-made Solid Surface washbasins (model HLICX-04000) were installed. The result is a sleek, continuous installation that guarantees durability, ease of maintenance, and seamless integration with the surrounding surfaces and materials.
Idral’s electronic sensor taps (model 500.12/R) ensure controlled, hygienic water delivery while reducing waste, supporting the structure’s environmental sustainability goals. The entire system is designed to efficiently withstand heavy use, without compromising the comfort of the end user.
Special attention was given to the design of the accessible toilet, which includes Idral-certified devices ensuring safety and usability:
Wall-hung toilet 10266 – designed to offer comfort and accessibility, with adjustable height and an easy-to-sanitise hygienic surface.
Ergonomic washbasin 10191 – with reduced depth and a form designed to allow wheelchair access.
Electronic mixer tap 500.12 – fitted with a photocell sensor for easy use by people with limited mobility.
Inclined mirror 12010 – providing optimal visibility even when seated, with no need for manual adjustment.
Complete set of safety grab bars (model 12000V) – strategically positioned to support movement and ensure maximum stability and safety.
All elements comply with accessibility standards, helping to create a space that is truly inclusive, functional, and aligned with the Aquarium’s social mission.
The project also included the creation of a child-friendly toilet — a fundamental addition in an educational and outreach-focused venue like the Genoa Aquarium. For this space, products from the Idral KIDS range were selected, specifically designed for children, featuring smaller dimensions, ergonomic shapes, and safe materials: the WC 10306 and the fold-down changing table HLICX-34000, accessible and intuitive, allowing parents to care for small children with ease.
Thanks to Idral’s extensive experience in designing solutions for children, the resulting space fosters autonomy, responsible play, and learning about correct water use. A bathroom designed for little ones also helps reinforce the Aquarium’s educational message.
